Water sprites and mermen, night watchers and Christmas carollers, Mikes the Tom Cat, Godmother Vixen, the Good Soldier Svejk and other protagonists of Lada’s imaginary world are extended by several interesting exhibits that have not been exposed so far.

The world Lada painted does not exist anymore, but in fact it did not exist even before. Lada created it himself. He was gifted to live events of everyday life as something remarkable and in his poor reality of his childhood he managed to see a miracle for his whole life. He became famous mainly as an illustrator of the Hašek’s  world-renowned book – The Good Soldier Svejk, creator of original children’s books and painter, who returns to the world of childhood in his paintings. He had a strong influence on modern Czech caricature, book work and illustration. He dedicated to a poster, advertisement and scenography. All these genres that Lada worked with apparent naive simplicity and at the same time with lot of security are presented in the exhibition in Municipal House.

Among representatives of Czech modernism it would be difficult to find a painter whose work would meet such a spontaneous and wide response of both specialistsand amateurs. The markedness of Lada’s original artistic speech is as exceptional as the persistence of his artistic heritage. New editions of his children´ s books, postcards and calendars prove that Lada is not a dead classic but a natural part of our cultural knowledge. “National” in the best sense.

The exhibition is accompanied with a Czech-English publication.
